There are 3 loose categories of effects and each have very controlled regions as well as exciting extremes that would normally not be found elsewhere.

• The DELAY FX family (blue/green) contains very clean stereo delay, flanger with stereo chorus capabilities and spicy extremes, and freezer to capture and freeze moments of time in a fun modular way.
• The AMPLITUDE FX family (bright colors) contains autopanner with possibilities of ringmod, crunchy digital crusher with mighty feedback and a rhythmic slicer that can create fun rhythmic transients out of any drone.
• The PITCH SHIFTING FX family (red colors) comes with dirty pitcher that shifts signals up and can do it in tonal or rhythmical fashion, fun replayer effect that can do audio reversing as well as a lot of pitch shifting artifacts and last but not least shifter that can mangle your pitch up or down in more nuanced ways to achieve detuned sounds and feedbacked pitch slopes.

Modulate everything
The gates of extreme sound design and the glitch realm open with modulation and the selection of the active FX MODE. The effects parameters can be modulated with a built in LFO or surprisingly powerful pattern generator. For creating dynamic effects responding to the incoming audio (hello, ducking) there is also an envelope follower.

Stereo goodness
Each effect has the possibility to widen the STEREO by detuning some of its core. The sound can be brightened or darkened by the FILTER and all effects respond to triggers or clocks in predictable and exciting ways.

Four modes to play with the sound

The NOISE source has built in lowpass-highpass FILTER and 4 modes (white noise, clap, bit and metallic).
The TONE has 4 oscillator configurations (FM, FM2, dual and ring modulation), pitch envelope, detune, V/Oct input and timbral SHAPE control.
The LAYER fader crossfades between the layers, but also adjusts their relative decay envelopes to achieve drum-kit like playability.
The ENV knob makes shortest envelopes in the middle and elongates the decay to the right and both attack and decay to the left making more of a shaker/reversed/synth timbres.
The TIMBRE section either focuses on the whole body of the sound (left) or is focused towards the transient (right).
The final CLIP distortion stage with either soft clipping with a bass boost (left) or transient shaper with hard clipping (right) makes the drums go super-hard.

Unlock your live performance
While keeping the module compact the CRUST is oriented towards performance. The assignable CTRL knob and CV can give you another performance control of your choice so you only perform with the parameters that are important and don’t accidentally change your set and forget settings. Few more performance oriented button combos allow you to store and (re)load presets or reset certain parts of the sound engine.

Knit Rider is a very versatile 6 voice trigger sequencer with a fast, modern workflow. There are 4 bars in one pattern, every bar has 16 steps, each of which has 4 sub-steps, which makes it 256 steps per pattern. And there are 64 patterns in total ! This allows you to create very detailed patterns while retaining the intuitivity and speed of classic 16 step sequencers. Use the bar buttons to navigate inside the 4 bars. Hold a certain step – the bar buttons will now show the substeps in that step – press the bar buttons to edit the substeps.

Easily record sequences by tapping the voice buttons.

Active step feature allows you to set any number of steps you want to have independently for each voice (or for all voices at the same time). You can also deactivate individual steps in the middle of a sequence. All voices have mute feature and can be set to be in trigger or gate mode. You can also record the sequences by tapping on the voice buttons with adjustable quantisation. Jump feature allows you to repeat certain step of the sequence for all voices which is great for performance and non-linear playback of patterns. Knit rider can by master or slave when it comes to tempo and you can set the clock input ratio (it one clock is 1 substep, 2 substeps, 1 step or 2 steps). There is also FN button which gives you access to additional features for fast and effective workflow.

Each channel also features a recordable trigger generator with an algorithmic fill feature to get the inspiration started or to make things polymetric and keep your patches ever-changing. Use the SHIFT button to change modulation shapes and sync selected or all channels to an internal or external clock.

Neo Trinity has been designed with performance in mind, so it includes channel mutes and allows storing whole presets as banks.

While the core mechanics of the module are very straightforward, the inclusion of assignable CV inputs exponentially increases the complexity of the module’s behavior. Control some or all channels in different ways with the META IN and utilize channels’ E and F dedicated inputs. The inputs can control the main parameter in a positive or inverted way, control the output amplitude, and act as an external trigger or a trigger for the internal Sample & Hold function. Beauty and the Beast in a full metal jacket

Mixing with Bestie can be pure vanilla if you keep all the levels left of the 12 o’clock position. But once you start boosting, Bestie can quickly turn into a Beast. As soon as you start to overload the mixer, the sounds can start to fight for dominance.

The dedicated headphone output offers a loudness control with a smooth mixdown overdrive character and a pre/post mute switch for pre-listening to all your channels before unmuting them to the speakers.

Channels 1 and 5 have a flexible connectivity scheme accommodating 2x mono cable for left and right channels or 1x cable mono to split to both channels or a classic stereo jack.

The Feedback Channel

Channel 3 serves as a feedback channel, which means it routes the output back to the input. If you plug anything into the Channel 3 input, it functions as a normal input channel.

When utilizing Channel 3 as a feedback channel, the level before the 12 o’clock position functions as an added distortion and gain. If boosted beyond 0 dB, it will begin to self-oscillate and generate increasingly deeper tones as the channel is further amplified. At maximum settings, it produces distinct tremolo-like effects.

No input? No input!

A big part of the sonic aesthetics of Bastl Instruments and Casper Electronics is influenced by the so-called no-input-mixing technique. This is the technique of routing the output back to the input on mixing consoles and using gain and EQ to create different tones and noises without plugging any signals into the mixer.

However, fascinating outcomes arise when these feedback signals are interrupted by elements such as drums. They interact with the feedback tones and compete for dominance. Bestie is well suited for such experiments and directly encourages you to overload its circuitry and make the signals go ape.

Side Chain & Spectral Follower

The Side Chain envelope follower input is normalized to input of Channel A, but can be overridden by plugging in any external signal. Its output is normalized to the CV paths, so you can start compressing instantly. Patch a kick drum to Channel A and use the attenuverters to compress (CCW) or expand (CW) other signals. The switch lets you select the envelope follower response time.

The Spectral Follower listens to the Channel D output (which can also be your mix output, thanks to the cascade mixing), and you can select with a switch whether it focuses on high, mid, or low frequencies. Patch it anywhere to make a spectral compression!

Several Aikido units can be daisy chained to create larger cascading mixers.
