]]>At its heart lies a refined high-stability triangle core voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), with performance matching or exceeding that of much bigger and costly oscillator modules.
Instead of a coarse frequency knob, a 7-position octave switch is provided. This in combination with a perfect fifth transposition switch and factory pitch tuning, makes Cycle 5 an exceptionally straightforward and musical VCO to use: simply centre the fine tune knob, and the module will be instantly tuned to reference C.
Meanwhile, its dual precision volt per octave inputs add a great deal of versatility. For example, one could be used for pitch sequencing and the other as a generic exponential FM input, or both sequenced together for transposition effects — the dual inputs serving as a built-in precision adder.
Sporting all the classic waveforms, ranging from sine wave, triangle, saw and square/pulse, as well as a hard sync input and low frequency oscillator (LFO) mode, Cycle 5 makes for a real workhorse VCO. The novel trigonometric waveshaper results in a very clean sine wave, ideal for sub bass duty.
Cycle 5’s highlight however, is its vari-wave feature. By adjusting the vari-wave knob, the waveform on the matching output will smoothly morph from sine, to triangle, saw, square and finally a very narrow pulse. The vari-wave parameter can be CV controlled, up to audio frequencies for some intense timbres.
Equally at home as a modest modulation companion to big VCOs, as being in the spotlight in miniature or polyphonic systems, Cycle 5 might just be the most multi-talented tiny analogue oscillator yet.

]]>The post ALM Busy Circuits MCO mkII Eurorack Compact Multi Synth Voice Module appeared first on Elevator Sound.
]]>It offers a broad collection of unique, high-quality synth voices, each with extensive, customisable parameters. These parameters can be directly controlled or modulated through assignable internal and external sources.
Certain per-voice parameters support audio-rate modulation, including FM, sync, and DSP. Each voice also supports up to four-voice chords, external-triggered envelopes, multiple LFOs, and dual audio outputs for comprehensive desktop-like synth functionality.
Voices include a multi dimensional wavetable oscillator based on the original MCO, a complex additive synthesis engine, a multi mode ’JP’ type digi-synth, a lush virtual analog implementation, a fully featured vocoder, a bass synth for both kicks and sub sonic tones and finally a rebirth and porting of our discontinued SID GUTs chip voice.
Each voice includes factory presets as well as the ability to store and recall user presets. All state is preserved across power cycles.
The MCO Mk II is designed to be familiar, quick and easy to use with a high resolution colour display and a rich visual user interface.
A USB-C connection allows for easy firmware updates, user wavetables upload and device config backup and restore. Axon expander modules are also supported to increase CV control options.

]]>The module consists of two oscillators, called the Modulator and Principal, with a middle section that provides voltage control over the internal modulation paths between the two oscillators, resulting in highly complex timbres.
Additionally, the principal oscillator passes through multiple unique voltage-controlled waveshapers and crossfaders for further signal processing. The module’s pitch can be controlled with 1V / OCT or via its internal auto-tuner and ART control to create precisely pitched notes.

]]>The Subharmonic Oscillator is one of Serge’s latest inventions and also one of his most extraordinary designs. 7 accurate analog VCOs tied at the waist—in unison, yet their frequencies can open up like a fan, creating complex clusters. Each voice generates a pulse wave. It is temperature compensated and follows exceptional 1V/Octave tracking.
In addition, each voice provides (voltage controlled) pulse width modulation or subharmonic division as well as an individual output. The precision of these voices in combination with a global Spread control and various FM inputs opens up an enormous sonic range from massive unisono sounds to dissonant, orchestra-style textures.
The ODD and EVEN outputs enable the use as a stereo oscillator.

]]>There are a couple quirks to these 8038 VCOs:
Below 300 hz the waveform symmetry is slightly off. triangle waves get a little uneven in the lfo range, the sine is not completely perfect to begin with the bottom trough and in the lfo range it slopes slightly, and the square turns more trapezoidal above 1khz(see scope shots) Also it doesn’t track 1 volt per octave perfectly. usually the 1st and 3rd octave will be a couple cents off. Other than those idiosyncrasies, it is a powerful, stable dual oscillator in a small footprint with no cross talk between oscillators. It’s great for: drones and beating sine or triangle waves, cross modulating itself for interesting clocks/LFOs, creating complex waveforms/timbres through lin/exp frequency modulation.

]]>The post Hikari Instruments Monos 0 Eurorack Noise Random Module appeared first on Elevator Sound.
]]>In High range, it serves as a noise source, and in Low range, it functions as a random CV generator. Monos 0 generates random signals/noise signals through an LFSR clocked by an internal, voltage-controllable VCO and divides the created signal by 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32. These signals are then mixed using a slider. The LFSR can also be driven by an external clock patched into the Clock In. It also has an internal clock output, allowing it to function as a VC clock generator.
With the noise modulation fader, the signal can be fed back to modulate the speed (pitch) of the internal clock after passing through the slider. This is useful when producing unique clock signals, particularly in Low range. Feedback from each divided component can be turned off with a switch on the channel.
